luc tuymans portraitArtist Luc Tuymans, although he was convicted of plagiarism by Belgian authorities, is one of the most influential artists in his country. Just next week, the prominent Zwirnergallery will open in its London address an exhibition of his works, a series of pieces that revolves around the theme The Shore (30 January – 2 April). With this event in the making, Artprice takes a look back at how the 55-year-old Antwerp-born artist’s works have performed at public auctions in the last few years.

The turnover for Luc Tuymans’ works at auctions in 2014 – a result slightly below the previous years’ results. In 2013, his works added up to more thanUS$3 million.


Luc Tuymans’ position in the living Belgian artists 2014 ranking by auction turnover. Although he came first in 2013, he stands behind Alechinsky, Borremans, Wim Delvoye and Francis Alys in the 2014 ranking.


The best ever auction result for a contemporary (born after 1945) Belgian artist: on 15 November 2013 at Christie’s New York, Rumour (2001) garnered more enthusiasm than expected and sold high above theUS$1.4 -1.8 million estimates.
